2 ozs. Buttercup or color of your choice.
Plastic crochet hook size E.
1 ½ yds. ⅞ inch ribbon.
1 yd. ¼ inch ribbon.

CAP

Chain (ch) 4, join to form a ring, ch 3 [counts as 1 double crochet (d c)], 13 d c in ring, join.

2nd Row. Ch 3, d c in same space, * 2 d c in next d c, repeat from * all around, join in 3rd stitch (st) of ch (28 d c).

3rd Row. Ch 3 and working in d c, increase 6 d c evenly spaced (34 d c).

4th Row. Ch 3, d c in same space, ch 1, 2 d c in same space, * skip 1 d c, 2 d c in next d c, ch 1, 2 d c in same space (shell), repeat from * all around, join in 3rd st of ch (17 shells).

5th Row. Slip stitch (sl st) in ch 1 space, ch 3, d c in same space, ch 1, 2 d c in same space, * 2 d c in next ch 1 space, ch 1, 2 d c in same space, repeat from * all around, join.

6th Row. 1 single crochet (s c) in same space, 1 s c in each of the next 7 d c, ch 3, shell in center of next shell, * shell in center of next shell, repeat from * 11 times (13 shells), ch 3, skip 2 d c, s c in next d c, 1 s c in each of the next 7 d c, do not join, place a marker at beginning of each row.

7th Row. 1 s c in each of the next 8 s c, 2 s c over next ch 3 loop, * shell in next shell, repeat from * 12 times, 2 s c over next ch 3 loop, 1 s c in each of next 8 s c.

8th Row. 1 s c in each of the next 10 s c, ch 3, * shell in next shell, repeat from * 12 times, ch 3, 1 s c in each remaining 10 s c.

9th Row. 1 s c in each of the next 10 s c, 2 s c over next ch 3 loop, ch 3, * shell in next shell, repeat from * 12 times, ch 3, 2 s c over next ch 3 loop, 1 s c in each remaining s c.

10th Row. 1 s c in each of the next 12 s c, 2 s c over next ch 3 loop, ch 3, * shell in next shell, repeat from * 12 times, ch 3, 2 s c over next ch 3 loop, 1 s c in each remaining 12 s c.

11th Row. 1 s c in each of the next 14 s c, 2 s c over next ch 3 loop, ch 3, * shell in next shell, repeat from * 12 times, ch 3, 2 s c over next ch 3 loop, 1 s c in each remaining 14 s c.

12th Row. 1 s c in each of the next 16 s c, 2 s c over next ch 3 loop, ch 3, * 3 d c in center of next shell, ch 1, 3 d c in same shell, s c between shells, repeat from * 12 times, ch 3, 2 s c over next ch 3 loop, 1 s c in each remaining 16 s c.

13th Row. 1 s c in each of the next 18 s c, 2 s c over next ch 3 loop, ch 3, * 3 d c, ch 1, 3 d c (shell) in center of next shell, ch 2, s c in s c between shells, ch 2, repeat from * 12 times but ending with ch 3, 2 s c over next ch 3 loop, 1 s c in each remaining 18 s c, join, cut yarn. Lace ribbon through shells of 11th row. Trim with ribbon rosettes as illustrated.

BOOTIES

Ch 14, 3 s c in 2nd st from hook, 1 s c in each of the next 11 sts of ch, 3 s c in end st, working on other side of ch, 1 s c in each of the next 11 sts, do not join this or following rounds, place a marker at beginning of each round.

2nd Round. 2 s c in each of the next 3 s c, 1 s c in each of the next 11 s c, 2 s c in each of the next 3 s c, 1 s c in each of the next 11 s c.

3rd Round. * 1 s c in next s c, 2 s c in next s c, repeat from * twice, 1 s c in each of the next 12 s c, 2 s c in next s c, * s c in next s c, 2 s c in next s c, repeat from * once, 1 s c in each of the next 11 s c.

4th and 5th Rounds. 1 s c in each s c on sides increasing 3 s c evenly spaced around each end in each round (52 s c in last round), sl st in next st to even round, ch 1, turn.

6th Round. 1 s c in each s c picking up entire st by inserting hook around entire st, join, ch 1, turn.

7th Round. 1 s c in each s c, do not join. Repeat the last round twice. Fold in half lengthwise and mark center for toe.

10th Round. 1 s c in each s c decreasing 3 s c evenly spaced around toe (to decrease: * insert hook in next st, pull loop through, repeat from * once, yarn over and work off all loops at one time).

Next Row. 1 s c in each s c to within 3 sts from center st at toe, then working in back loop of sts only work 1 s c in each of the next 7 s c, working through both loops of sts 1 sl st in each of the next 2 sts, ch 1, turn.

Next Row. Skip the 2 sl sts and working in back loop of sts 1 s c in each of the next 7 s c, working through both loops of sts, sl st in each of the next 2 s c on side of bootie, ch 1, turn. Repeat the last row 6 times.

Next Row. Skip the 2 sl sts and working in back loop of sts 1 s c in each of the next 7 s c, sl st in same st on side of bootie, do not turn.

Next Round. BEADING: Ch 3, skip 1 s c, short double crochet (s d c) in next s c (s d c: yarn over hook, insert in st, pull loop through, yarn over and work off all loops at one time), * ch 1, skip 1 s c, s d c in next s c, repeat from * all around, ch 1, join in 2nd st of ch (18 meshes).

Next Round. 2 s c in each ch 1 mesh, join.

Next Round. Ch 3, 1 d c in same space, ch 1, 2 d c in same space, * skip 3 s c, 2 d c, ch 1, 2 d c (shell) in next s c, repeat from * all around ending with skip 3 s c, join in 3rd st of ch.

Next Round. Sl st to center of shell, ch 3, 1 d c, ch 1, 2 d c in same space, s c between shells, * shell in center of next shell, s c between shells, repeat from * all around, join in 3rd st of ch.

Next Round. Same as last round but working the s c in the s c between shells, join, cut yarn. Lace ribbon through beading. Work other bootie in same manner.
